Grant Deadlines
The next round of TreeVitalize Metro grants will support 2012 tree plantings.
- March 1, 2012 – Application deadline for fall 2012 plantings.
Overview
The goal of the TreeVitalize Metro Program is to increase tree canopy cover in the metropolitan areas of Pennsylvania. Research has repeatedly shown a direct link between the presence of trees and the quality of life for urban residents. Trees help to capture storm water and reduce runoff, improve water quality, improve air quality, reduce urban heat island effects, beautify communities, increase property values, reduce heating and cooling costs and improve human health. TreeVitalize is a partnership of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), PA Community Forests, Penn State Extension Urban Forestry, and local municipalities. About the Grant Program
The Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area is the metro partner for the TreeVitalize program in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Metro Area (Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties). The TreeVitalize Metro Program provides technical assistance and grants to communities for tree-planting to help establish urban forest management programs. Municipalities or municipal agencies in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties are eligible to apply to the program. Eligible expenses include trees, tree supplies, site preparation, and tree-planting costs. A dollar for dollar match is required.
