The Fourth Annual Scranton Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 2, beginning and ending at Valor Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium. The goal of the race is to provide a superior event highlighting the local area and in doing so, bring increased exposure and revenue for local businesses. The race starts at 9 a.m. for Half Marathon runners. The Kids Run will start at 9:30 a.m.
The Scranton Half Marathon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the 2017 event will benefit the continued development of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. For more information, and to register, visit www.scrantonhalf.com.
BikeScranton, Lackawanna Heritage Valley’s free bike share program, kicks off at First Friday in April! Tour the downtown on a bicycle, free of charge! Look for the BikeScranton tent on Courthouse Square. Bicycles will be available to anyone age 16 or older with a valid photo ID. Cyclists under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. On Saturday, December 2, Santa Claus will leave his sleigh at the North Pole and come to town early on a train! Six local communities will celebrate Christmas in a Small Town when Santa arrives aboard a special train provided by Steamtown National Historic Site. The Santa Train will arrive at local train stations at the following times:
Families are encouraged to assemble at the train station in each community to welcome Santa as the train pulls into town. At each stop, Santa and his friends will greet all of the children, hearing their lists for special Christmas wishes. After visiting with Santa, families can enjoy refreshments, live entertainment and special activities. The Santa Train and its crew will be available for photo opportunities at each station. All activities are free. Train rides for the public are not available at this event.
