Heritage Explorer Bike Tour
Saturday, June 18, 2011 – Father’s Day Weekend!
Mellow Park, Peckville, PA

Join us for the 2nd Annual Heritage Explorer Bike Tour on Saturday, June 18, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Mellow Park in Peckville, PA. Hosted by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority (LHVA), the Bike Tour is a non-competitive, family-friendly event with something for every rider. Last year, more than 300 people of all ages participated in the inaugural event.

Routes  PDF
The Bike Tour begins in Mellow Park in Peckville, PA. The Tour offers riders a choice of four routes:

  • The Archbald Limited – a 5 mile family-friendly route.
  • The Powdermill Express – an 11 mile intermediate level ride.
  • The Carbondale Special – a 22 mile challenge tour.
  • The Union Dale Pusher – 44 mile route for experienced biking enthusiasts.

Each out-and-back route extends from Mellow Park north through the Lackawanna Valley along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, a level rail-trail with a packed stone surface, and quiet neighborhood streets. The longer rides continue on the Delaware and Hudson Rail-Trail. The routes feature the natural beauty, history, and cultural diversity of the communities along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, and the longer rides showcase the quiet woodlands of the Endless Mountains.

New for 2011, the "Blakely Lokie Tot Tour" has been added for the youngest riders with training wheels or tricycles, and families with strollers. The Tot Ride will stay in Mellow Park, and it will include stations with hands-on activities for the kids.

Each route offers Station Stops on the course with water, snacks, fun and educational activities, and first aid. Marshals and SAG wagons will patrol the course, and all street sections will be liberally staffed with flaggers. Check in any time between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., depending on your choice of route.

Festival
New for 2011, the Bike Tour will include an all-day festival at Mellow Park with a vibrant "Trail Town" atmosphere. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. riders, their families, and the community can enjoy music, delicious food, vendors showcasing outdoor recreation and gear, and a variety of exhibits by local nonprofit groups. There will be a special area just for the kids with games and activities. Don’t miss it!

May is Bike Safety Month!

To help cyclists prepare for the Bike Tour, particularly the young and more inexperienced riders, LHVA will offer a series of free bike safety clinics throughout the region during May to celebrate Bike Safety Month. Check back for a listing of dates and locations.

Sponsorships
Sponsorship Form  PDF  Word

In 2011, the expanded Bike Tour and Festival is expected to draw up to 1,000 riders to the Tour and more than 2,000 visitors to enjoy the Festival. This large event will need support from the community to help raise funds for the further development of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail system.

We welcome cash sponsorships, as well as donations of materials, services, and raffle prizes. Donations and raffle prizes should be assessed at their fair market value to determine the appropriate sponsorship level. Sponsors at every level, from $10,000 to $100, will receive a full package of benefits. These may benefits such as free entry to the Bike Tour, complimentary exhibitor space at the Festival, and a strong presence in several marketing opportunities.

To join our sponsorship team, please complete the Sponsorship Form and submit it with payment or donation commitment to LHVA by Friday, May 20, 2011. Although this is several weeks in advance of the event, we want all of our sponsors to receive proper recognition in media and promotional efforts as outlined in the packages below. Sponsors at Gold Level ($1,000) and above should send their organization’s logo (high resolution eps or jpg format) by May 20th to April Rogato at arogato@LHVA.org.

Online payment by credit card is coming soon!

Heritage Valley Partners, Inc., the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit development affiliate of LHVA, will accept sponsorships on behalf of the Bike Tour. All sponsorships are tax deductable to the full extent of the law.
