The Heritage Explorer Bike Tour is a fun, non-competitive, family-friendly event with something for every rider. The Bike Tour travels through fifteen municipalities and three counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania on a combination of rail-trails and neighborhood streets. This amazing effort is due to the cooperation and partnership of community officials, first responders, local residents, Bike Tour sponsors, and volunteers. In 2011, more than 450 people of all ages participated in the event!
The Bike Tour offers riders a choice of four out-and-back routes that extend from Mellow Park north through the Lackawanna Valley along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, a rail-trail with a packed gravel surface, and quiet neighborhood streets. The event also includes the "Blakely Lokie Tot Tour" for the youngest riders with trikes and training wheels.
The Bike Tour features a free all-day Festival at Mellow Park with lively music, delicious food, demonstrations about bike safety and repair, vendors showcasing the best of outdoor living in Northeastern Pennsylvania, a variety of exhibits by local nonprofit groups, and a tent packed with dozens of raffle baskets. |
