Guidebooks
To help you get around, the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority recommends two guidebooks to local attractions:
Pennsylvania’s Northeast Treasures ($19.99, Heritage Valley Press, 196 pages)
An entertaining travel guide to Northeastern Pennsylvania, this book is full of interesting information, beautiful photography, and historic tidbits. Author Daniel Perry takes readers on a wide-ranging tour of the Lackawanna Valley, revealing little known facts about the region. The work of a dozen local photographers adds to its visual appeal. Available at local historic sites, bookstores, and Amazon.com.
A History Set in Stone: A Guide to Downtown Scranton Architecture (Complimentary, published by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority and Lackawanna Historical Society, 20 pages)
A concise twenty-page annotated walking tour of the City of Scranton, this booklet provides maps, tour routes, and interesting details about the city’s beautiful commercial and residential buildings. Available at the Lackawanna County Visitors’ Center on Montage Mountain (off I-81 in Moosic), several downtown businesses, and local historic sites.
